Jeremy has first degree black belt in Tang Soo Do and Moo Duk Kwan (South Korean martial arts) and received his black belt from the World Tang Soo Do Association, while studying under John Lefever , Master John Beam and Grandmaster Jae Chul Shin. He studied boxing, kickboxing and Moo Duk Kwan under Ken Messner in New Holland, PA. He has also studied Krav Maga (Israeli self defense), Judo, Wing Chun Kung Fu, pressure point fighting, weapons and breaking. He has taught adults and children for a total of 4 years (2.5 years black belt candidate and 1.5 years as a black belt instructor).
Jeremy holds MA’s from Trinity International University in both Intercultural Studies and the History of Christian Thought. Jeremy currently is a church planter with Sent Network. He and his wife, Monica, have lived in Richmond since 2012.
Concerning the impact martial arts have made in his life, Jeremy says that, “Besides Jesus, my wife and family, martial arts have been one of the most important elements of my life. I would not be who I am today without having studied martial arts. Once a martial artist, always a martial artist! I have been studying martial arts since I was a child and through martial arts have learned many lessons about self discipline, self confidence, maturity and servanthood, honesty, integrity, peace and humility. I am very passionate about helping others to understand these truths and experience them in their lives and if martial arts may be a tool for helping others to grow, then I am honored to be a part of teaching that to them.”
Monica has been a yoga practitioner for 8 years and ABSOLUTELY LOVES YOGA!!! If she had her way, everyone would learn yoga! She has studied multiple forms of yoga, teaches Body Attack (certified through Les Mills), has solid exposure to martial arts (especially Tang Soo Do and self defense) and is a healthy eating adviser. She is also a graphic designer and is aiming to help her husband, Jeremy, to start a faith community here in Richmond. In her own words, “Yoga has something for everybody! No matter what their personal health or even mental goals, they will majorly benefit from adding yoga into their life!”
The newest member of our team, Danny Miranda, is a black belt in the Korean martial art Hapkido. He is founder and owner of River City Hapkido and Martial Arts, and has teamed up with us to provide his expertise in self-defense, martial arts for children, and also heads up our Gracie Combative’s program. He and his wonderful family live in the West End.
